Practical Tips to
Stay Positive
It’s natural to feel overwhelmed by our challenges in difficult times. However, nurturing optimism can be a powerful tool for navigating setbacks and emerging stronger.
Optimism doesn’t mean ignoring the reality of challenging situations; instead, it means focusing on what we can control and how we can improve our lives despite the circumstances.
- Focus on What You Can Control
When life feels uncertain, concentrate on the aspects within your control. Reflect on your career, reconnect with family and friends, and build relationships that can uplift your spirits. Remember, the pendulum will swing back, and life will return to a “new normal.” It just requires patience and adaptability.
- Embrace Downtime for Personal Growth
Use any downtime to learn new skills. Whether starting a podcast, designing a website, or getting creative with social media, these activities provide a sense of accomplishment and keep your mind engaged.
- Engage in Positive Activities
Simple activities like creative cooking, gardening, or crafting can make the days go by faster and keep you optimistic.
Painting the unexpected is one of my therapies for maintaining optimism. For example, I took the time to paint plants on my firepit bench—not because I’m an artist, but because it brought color and joy to my space and allowed my mind to override a challenging situation that I was facing. It’s my kind of therapy. (You don’t have to be an artist; copy an image, cut out a template, trace it onto a surface, and paint.)
- Be an Example of Positivity
It’s important to remember that we’re all in this together. Your optimism can be a beacon of hope for those around you. Steer clear of conversations about divisive topics that can breed negativity. Instead, focus on sharing stories of kindness and the resilience of the human spirit.
