Childhood to Adult Career JourneyLet’s play a game. Take a moment to revisit your childhood photos. Do any capture you are playing a game, wearing a costume, or posing for a picture in a way that foreshadows your future career? One photo stood out as I flipped through my family albums: around age three, standing on a sofa dressed up as if addressing an audience. At that moment, I realized I was unknowingly embodying the role I would grow into as a speaker.

Did I know about my career path when I was three years old? Not at all. Life took me through many twists and turns before I arrived here. But looking back, that snapshot of me on the sofa feels like a glimpse into my destiny.

I invite you to try this reflection yourself. Find a childhood photo and compare it to where you are today. Does it align with your current career or reveal a path you never considered? If you feel unfulfilled in your work, this simple exercise might open the door to new possibilities.

Our career journeys are shaped by joyous moments and unexpected challenges. Some of us follow a path based on what we know at the time, only to realize later that change is necessary. My journey has been one of discovery, resilience, and passion—one that I will share in the weeks ahead.

Most importantly, stay true to who you are meant to be. This was my biggest lesson. My stubborn determination wouldn’t let me give up on myself because I believed in my path—even when others didn’t. Did my family support me? Not at all. They never truly understood my career choice, and to this day, some still don’t. Do you know that feeling?

What kept me going was knowing and honoring myself. Instead of encouragement, I often faced judgment. But my closest friends saw me for who I was. One of the most influential pieces of advice I ever received came from a friend who told me, “You are unique; don’t ever change, no matter how others judge you.” Thank you, Chris Jurich! I held onto those words throughout my career. Then, in 2012, my father finally said, “I don’t understand your career choice, but I am proud of you.” That moment meant everything.

For me, success has always been more about accomplishments than financial gain. While monetary rewards are valuable, my true fulfillment comes from bringing a vision to life and seeing it through. That journey requires patience, persistence, and an openness to growth.

Join me as I share my career story in an upcoming blog series. I hope my experiences inspire you to reflect on your path, embrace change, and pursue the work that truly fulfills you.

Please share your children influences to your career path.
